How to Use Vacuum Storage Bags for Clothes
Vacuum storage bags can make bulky, dry textiles easier to organise, but the result depends on the bag, its closure and the air-removal method. Identify whether your bag has a pump valve or is designed to roll before you start. Follow the instructions for the exact model you have.

Check the bag, contents and pump first
Match the bag's usable size to your dry clothes and confirm how its valve or roll-up channel works.
Do not assume every pump fits every valve. IKEA, for example, specifies a valve size for its own TRICKEN pump; that is not a compatibility specification for a Toreso proposal. Check garment-care instructions before compressing delicate or structured items. Keep sharp objects and wet laundry out of the bag.
Fill and close a valve-style bag
Spread garments without forcing the closure, then run the supplied slider along the whole top seal as directed.
Leave the clearance required by the bag's instructions; an overfilled opening is harder to close evenly. IKEA's SPANTAD example uses a zip slider at the top and a separate valve for air removal. That sequence illustrates the mechanism, not a universal instruction for all brands.
Remove air using the correct method
For a compatible valve bag, gently press out some air, connect the specified pump and stop according to the model instructions.
A roll-up bag uses its own rolling and venting method instead of an assumed pump connection. After evacuation, secure the valve or opening as instructed and inspect the seal. If the bag reinflates, check the zipper, valve and bag for gaps or damage; do not promise a fixed compression percentage.
Store and repack with access in mind
Keep the filled bag away from punctures and plan how you will remove air again after opening it.
For travel, check the compressed shape against your luggage and include the pump in your packing plan. The clothes still weigh the same. For longer storage, inspect the actual bag and its contents as its care instructions require; compression is not a substitute for cleaning or drying textiles.
Steps
01
Check the bag's intended contents, usable dimensions and valve or roll-up mechanism.
02
Pack clean, dry textiles without overfilling or straining the closure.
03
Close the full top seal using the supplied slider or model-specific method.
04
Remove air with a compatible pump or the bag's stated roll-up method; secure the valve.
05
Inspect for leaks or damage and store away from sharp edges; plan for reopening and recompression.
